Unemployment ‘could ruin lives’

Growing numbers of individuals may develop a bad credit score as a result of financial difficulties brought about by unemployment.General secretary of Unison Dave Prentis described employment statistics as “bleak” and called on the government to reconsider its reliance on the private sector to “pick up the pieces” of job losses from the public sector. He noted cutbacks are creating unemployment far in excess of figures from the Office for Budget Responsibility and warned lives of those who have been made redundant could be ruined without action to remedy these circumstances.”Millions of young people, public sector workers and long-term unemployed are among those paying the biggest price for an economic crisis they did not cause,” Mr Prentis remarked, adding an economic recovery will not come about unless public sector cuts are reversed.Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, recently claimed the rise in job loss is state-sponsored and also called for a change in official policy.
